Numbers tell a great deal about MSP's activities, trends and performance.
- Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport changed significantly between 1997 and 2007:
- Lindbergh Terminal square footage grew 46.1 percent, from 1.9 million square feet to 2.8 million
- The number of Lindbergh Terminal gates increased 69.6 percent, from 66 to 117
- Humphrey Terminal square footage grew 397.7 percent, from 80,000 square feet to 398,000
- The number of Humphrey Terminal gates increased 150 percent, from 4 to 10
- The total number of parking spaces grew 75.4 percent, from 11,218 to 19,677
- Airlines serve 131 nonstop markets from MSP, including 116 domestic and 14 international markets. Compared to other metropolitan areas in the United States, only Denver serves more non-stop markets per capita.
- MSP's 2008 estimated cost to airlines per enplaned passenger ($5.47) ranks among the lower half of large hub airports. The 2008 estimated national average is $8 based on rating agency information and various airport Bond Official Statements.
- The largest portion of the MAC's revenues, 47 percent, comes from concessions. Airline rates and charges generate 32 percent of the MAC's revenues. The other 21 percent come from ground rental, lease rental, tenant utilities payments, general aviation and reliever airport fees, and miscellaneous sources. The Metropolitan Airports Commission receives no money from the state of Minnesota's general operating budget.
- Of airline rates and charges, 53 percent come from landing fees, 6.2 percent from ramp fees, 36.9 percent from terminal rents and 3.9 percent from other charges.
- Of concessions revenues, 59 percent come from parking, 14 percent from auto rental, 12 percent from food and beverage, 7 percent from news and retail, 4 percent from ground transportation fees, 3 percent from terminal services and 1 percent from other concessions.
- Airlines that have a signed agreement with the MAC pay an aircraft landing fee of $2.12 (2008 est.) per 1,000 pounds landed weight.
- Approximately half of the passengers using MSP are connecting passengers while the other half consider MSP as their originating airport or destination.
